P0DF7 is the plausibility code for temperature sensor C of the generator inverter. The idea behind it: after a long rest every power switch should be at roughly the same temperature, so a sensor that stands out is suspect. In Mitsubishi's Outlander PHEV the W-phase high-side sensor is compared once per trip, after 600 s or more of soak and with the IGBTs off, against the U- and V-phase sensors; a gap above 47 °C lasting 0.1 s stores P0DF7-00. The circuit itself is electrically fine in this case, so wiring checks rarely help, and Mitsubishi's procedure replaces the power drive unit. A genuine overheat of the inverter is reported separately as P0A3E. The same comparison on sensor B is P0DF4.
High severity. Can I keep driving? If the car still runs, drive as little as possible and go to a specialized repair shop. Do not touch the orange cables: they carry high voltage.
Symptoms
- Engine warning light on after a cold start
- Usually no noticeable change in driving
- Possibly reduced generator power
Most likely causes
- Sensor C drifted or stuck inside the IGBT module
- Internal fault of the power drive unit
- Control software misjudging the comparison
What to check, in order
Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.
Good to know
- It can trigger limp mode.
- It affects emissions.
What each character of P0DF7 means
- P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
- 0: Generic code: same on every make
- D: Subsystem depends on the code range
- F7: Specific fault in that system
Frequently asked questions
