P0E24 is the plausibility test of inverter temperature sensor G: the signal is electrically fine, but the temperature it reports does not fit. Mitsubishi uses the code on the 2023 Outlander PHEV for IGBT sensor number 7 in the front motor control unit, labelled U-phase H2. The check runs only after a soak of at least 600 s, with the IGBTs shut down and the unit fed with 8 V or more, within 1.5 s of these conditions being met. Should it then deviate from either of two other IGBT temperatures by more than 47 °C for 0.1 s, P0E24-00 is logged; MIL and plug-in hybrid warning light both light up. After a long stand all switches should be equally warm, so the code points to a drifting sensor. Mitsubishi's flow ends with a new power drive unit.
High severity. Can I keep driving? If the car still runs, drive as little as possible and go to a specialized repair shop. Do not touch the orange cables: they carry high voltage.
Symptoms
- MIL and plug-in hybrid warning light on
- Often no noticeable change in driving
Most likely causes
- Sensor G reads offset against the other IGBT sensors
- Fault on the sensing circuit of the power drive unit
- Uneven inverter cooling, e.g. air in the coolant circuit
What to check, in order
Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.
Good to know
- It affects emissions.
What each character of P0E24 means
- P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
- 0: Generic code: same on every make
- E: Subsystem depends on the code range
- 24: Specific fault in that system
