P0E25 means the voltage of inverter temperature sensor G has fallen below its valid window. In the 2023 Outlander PHEV, Mitsubishi assigns it to the U-phase H2 sensor of the front motor control unit and sets P0E25-00 once that signal does not rise above 1.25 V during 0.08 s with a unit supply of 8 V upward; the MIL is switched on together with the hybrid warning lamp. Mitsubishi states only the voltage. For an NTC element fed through a pull-up resistor, as GM describes for its inverter sensors, a low voltage equals a very hot sensor, so a ground short or a damaged sensing line looks like an overheated switch. Real overheating is reported by separate temperature codes. The opposite limit is P0E26; the sensor is not sold separately.
High severity. Can I keep driving? If the car still runs, drive as little as possible and go to a specialized repair shop. Do not touch the orange cables: they carry high voltage.
Symptoms
- MIL and hybrid warning light on
- Motor power limited as if the inverter were overheating
Most likely causes
- Sensor signal shorted to ground inside the inverter
- Thermistor internally shorted
- Damaged sensing board, e.g. after coolant ingress
What to check, in order
Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.
Good to know
- It can trigger limp mode.
- It affects emissions.
What each character of P0E25 means
- P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
- 0: Generic code: same on every make
- E: Subsystem depends on the code range
- 25: Specific fault in that system
