P0E2A: Drive Motor Inverter Temperature Sensor H Circuit Low

P0E2A reports that inverter temperature sensor H delivers a voltage below its lower limit. Mitsubishi's 2023 Outlander PHEV assigns the code to IGBT sensor 8 (V-phase H2) of the front motor control unit, triggered by a voltage at or under 1.25 V lasting 0.08 s while the supply is 8 V or higher; the MIL comes on. Sensor 8 is the last one with a generic code there: for sensors 9 to 12 Mitsubishi falls back on its own P301x codes, since the generic list stops at H. If the circuit is an NTC divider of the type GM documents, low voltage reads as excessive heat, so a ground short makes the inverter look overheated and power is cut back. Genuine phase overheating is a separate code; the high-side fault is P0E2B.

High severity. Can I keep driving? If the car still runs, drive as little as possible and go to a specialized repair shop. Do not touch the orange cables: they carry high voltage.

Symptoms

  • MIL and hybrid warning light on
  • Power reduction similar to an overheating inverter

Most likely causes

  • Signal of sensor H shorted to ground
  • Shorted thermistor element
  • Moisture or coolant damage on the sensing board

What to check, in order

Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.

Good to know

  • It can trigger limp mode.
  • It affects emissions.

What each character of P0E2A means

  • P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
  • 0: Generic code: same on every make
  • E: Subsystem depends on the code range
  • 2A: Specific fault in that system
