P08BA: Pressure Control Solenoid L

Base code for the twelfth pressure control solenoid of an automatic transmission; which valve carries the letter L is up to the manufacturer. Toyota is the one documented user: bulletin T-SB-0094-24 for the 2024 Tacoma and Tacoma Hybrid lists it as P08BA71, actuator stuck, next to the stuck faults of solenoids A, C, D, G and H and a torque converter clutch stuck off. Because Toyota reports the fault type through the suffix, the stuck valve sits under this base code rather than under P08BB/P08BC. The MIL comes on. For trucks built before the production change Toyota's fix is a new transmission with torque converter, on the hybrid also the hybrid module. GM's Corvette dual clutch tables contain no L code.

Medium severity. Can I keep driving?Drive as little as possible and gently. If the transmission slips or stays in one gear, go slowly to a repair shop or call for a tow truck.

Symptoms

  • Check engine light on
  • Harsh, delayed or missing shifts
  • Transmission may hold a substitute gear

Most likely causes

  • Solenoid or its control valve sticking inside the valve body
  • Internal transmission fault from production, debris spreading through the hydraulics
  • Contaminated or wrong transmission fluid
  • Connector or harness fault at the solenoid

What to check, in order

Start with the simplest. You can tick off each step.

Good to know

  • It can trigger limp mode.
  • It affects emissions.

What each character of P08BA means

  • P: Powertrain: engine and transmission
  • 0: Generic code: same on every make
  • 8: Transmission
  • BA: Specific fault in that system
